Ascorbyl Glucoside
Ascorbyl glucoside is a stable form of vitamin C. When absorbed into skin, it breaks down to ascorbic acid, also known as pure vitamin C. Once absorbed, its breakdown to vitamin C is gradual, creating what’s known as a reservoir effect within skin. This leads to longer-lasting benefits.
Ascorbyl glucoside functions as an antioxidant and works well with other replenishing and antioxidant ingredients to preserve key substances your skin needs to look smoother, brighter, and younger.
Research on ascorbyl glucoside has shown its ability to improve uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation in addition to its great antioxidant protection and collagen boosting benefits.
Ethylhexylglycerin
Ethylhexylglycerin is preservative that boosts the efficacy of other preservatives such as phenoxyethanol. It has been shown to have mild humectant properties leading to improved skin hydration without a sticky feel.
Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP)
A derivative of the skincare superstar, Vitamin C. when it comes to vitamin C derivatives, MAP is definitely a great option. In fact, it is a skin brightening superstar. Studies have shown that MAP can boost collagen synthesis and is proven to work as a skin brightener.
Soothing properties of MAP may play a role in reducing blemishes. It is considered as one of the most hydrating forms of vitamin C.
Phenoxyethanol
A safe and effective preservative with a gentle profile on the skin.
Propylene Glycol
It's a helper ingredient that improves the freeze-thaw stability of products. Propylene glycol is a humectant (hydrator) that can enhance the delivery of key active ingredients into skin. It also plays a role in keeping formulas from melting in high heat or from freezing in low temps.Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP)
Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is a stable derivative of Vitamin C. When absorbed into the skin, it converts to Ascorbic Acid (AA) and does all the magic AA is proven to do (which is being an antioxidant, a collagen booster, and a skin brightener).
Studies have shown that SAP is a great antioxidant with photo-protective properties and skin brightening benefits. In addition, it smoothes wrinkles, visibly firms the skin, and reduces discolorations.
Sodium Hyaluronate (HA)
HA is found in the skin and acts as a sponge helping the skin to hold onto water, making it plump and elastic. HA is has amazing water holding capacity as it can bind up to 1000 times its own weight in water.
Sodium hyaluronate is the salt form of the skin-replenishing ingredient hyaluronic acid. It shares the same benefits as hyaluronic acid, including its remarkable ability to help skin retain a lot of moisture - one gram of hyaluronic acid can hold up to six liters of water. Used on skin, it doesn’t hold that much water; instead, as a smart ingredient, sodium hyaluronate helps skin maintain water balance, which is critical to its healthy appearance.
In addition to its moisture-binding properties, sodium hyaluronate can help nourish and maintain skin’s microbiome.
The chief difference between hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate is that sodium hyaluronate can be more readily absorbed by the skin than hyaluronic acid.
Both hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate are available in different molecular weights for multi-level results (lower molecular weight can penetrate deeper into skin’s layers, where higher weights deliver immediate results on the surface).
Water (Aqua)
Good old water, aka H2O.
Xanthan Gum
A natural ingredient used as a thickening agent, texture enhancer, and emulsion stabilizer, which is a general term for mixtures of unlike substances such as oil and water.
Squalane
Squalane is a saturated fatty acid and anti-oxidant. This miracle ingredient occurs naturally in the sebum of the human skin. Labothécaire uses naturally sourced vegan vitamin squalane.
It is a great anti-oxidant and moisturizer that makes your skin feel soft, smooth and supple without being heavy or greasy.
Squalane is suitable for all skin types and skin conditions, including oily and acne-prone as it balances your skin’s production of oils.
Tocopherol (Vitamin E)
Tocopherol is the name given to vitamin E. Labothécaire uses naturally sourced vegan vitamin E.
Vitamin E is a naturally occurring component of healthy skin, and its second most prevalent antioxidant behind vitamin C. It protects the skin cells from free-radicals that destroy collagen and inhibit its formation. It offers significant antioxidant properties to help defend from pollution and other environmental stressors that would otherwise weaken skin, causing unwanted changes.
Vitamin E can visibly improve hyperpigmentation when used in a 1% concentration. Typically, lower amounts are used in skin care for antioxidant benefit and to help preserve the stability of delicate ingredients.
It works in beautiful synergy with Vitamin C. The two super ingredients work hand-in-hand to give broad spectrum photo-protection and double each other's effectiveness.
Because it’s fat soluble it is easily absorbed by our skin
